Trying ideation techniques to come up with an idea.
An app that lets users create a profile and outline the ingredients/dietry exclusions/allergens or intolerances. This then lets the user search different shops allowing them to see the products available to them. A feature that allows you to hold up the ingredients of a product and it will identify the ingredients you have outlined as wanting to avoid. The biggest aspect of the app will be creating this community environment, as I'm expecting I will find in my user target audience research, that a lot of people suffering from food allergies or intolerance feel excluded in one way or another.
I have seen first hand experience of this in a number of different scenarios. Going out for a family dinner and having to get something maybe you don't particularly like because it was the only thing available to you due to dietary requirements, or worst case scenario they don't offer anything at all that you can eat. A Birthday party where snacks and deserts are left out for those invited and you can't eat any of it because it contains ingredients you're intolerant to. The list could go on, but the bottom line is that these scenarios all affect those suffering from food allergies or intolerances in a negative way, almost in the same way that a disability may make you feel like the odd one out in the average room of people.
I want this community aspect to try to negate this feeling by creating an area where you can share thoughts on certain food alternatives. Those that suffer from food allergies and intolerances often question things like What shop does the best gluten free bread comparatively? Can I find a ready meal that doesn't contain milk but also tastes good? This area of the app will allow users to see what others who have tried products think of the meal/foodstuffs and what it is rated (stars or /10), compare pricing from numerous grocery stores as well as finding hidden gem alternatives to products with your dietary requirements in mind.
Naming the product
I began brainstorming different names for product. I started this buy writing a list of words that are related to the topic and then taking those words and mixing them together for potential brand names.
From here I took the best potential names and drew up some word marks.
I decided to go with CheckIt and started to experiment with different ways to present it changing the E and the K.
Once I had gotten a word mark that I was happy with I began looking at colour. I wanted to go for something that resembled colours found in healthcare. Blues that convey a feeling of trust so you know the app is trustworthy.
From there, I got some critique on the logo so far and decided that the K wasn't as readable chopped up. I then took this diamond shape from the K and overlay the 3 lines of the E (which represent a list) and cut these shapes to be left with a new E that gave the wordmark more movement.
